Access to clean water is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of health, economic stability, and environmental sustainability. However, many communities in Uganda still struggle with inadequate access to safe water, leading to severe health risks, school dropouts, and economic hardships. Jem Renewable Energy Technology, through its flagship initiative, the Uganda Community Water Development Project, is committed to addressing these challenges by constructing, rehabilitating, and upgrading water sources using sustainable, solar-powered solutions.
Our mission is to build resilient communities by integrating renewable energy with clean water solutions, ensuring that even the most underserved populations have reliable access to safe drinking water. With a strong focus on community participation, digital monitoring, and sustainability, we are creating a future where clean water is accessible, well-managed, and life-changing. This initiative was inspired by the vision of Alice Natongo, whose dedication to eliminating water scarcity in Uganda continues to drive our efforts.
Through well construction, borehole rehabilitation, solar-powered upgrades, and community training, we are empowering local populations, reducing waterborne diseases, and fostering economic growth. As we maintain over 300 boreholes while upgrading others to solar-powered systems, we remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering long-term, impactful solutions that transform lives.
Our Vision for the Water Project
The Uganda Community Water Development Project envisions a future where every Ugandan community has access to safe, clean, and affordable water, reducing poverty, disease, and economic disparity.

This vision is coming to life through our collaborative work with local authorities, district water officers, and community leaders, ensuring long-term impact and sustainable water access.
Our Founder’s Vision: A Legacy of Change
Jem Renewable Energy Technology was inspired by the vision of Alice Jemimah Natongo, a woman who saw the struggles faced by Ugandan communities in accessing clean water. Her dream was to eliminate the long journeys families take to fetch water, reduce waterborne diseases, and empower local communities through sustainable water solutions.
Driven by her passion, we have expanded our efforts to include the Uganda Community Water Development Project, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to providing affordable, clean water to underserved communities while empowering them with the knowledge and tools to sustainably manage their water resources.
Why Clean Water Matters
Lack of clean and safe water is one of the biggest challenges facing Ugandan communities, impacting health, education, and economic development.
1. Health & Disease Prevention
Contaminated water is a major cause of cholera, dysentery, and typhoid. By digging wells and rehabilitating old boreholes, we eliminate these preventable diseases and improve overall public health.
2. Education & Gender Equality
In many rural areas, women and children spend hours fetching water, leading to school dropouts and lost economic opportunities. By bringing clean water closer to homes and schools, we keep children in school and empower women to participate in income-generating activities.
3. Economic Growth & Sustainability
With access to safe water, communities can engage in farming, small businesses, and other productive activities, creating a self-sustaining cycle of economic growth.
4. Sustainable Water Management
Through the Uganda Community Water Development Project, we train local water committees, introduce digital water monitoring, and ensure that water sources remain functional and well-managed for years to come.
Our Work: Transforming Lives Through Water & Renewable Energy
Solar-Powered Borehole Construction
We design and construct solar-powered boreholes, providing a cost-effective, sustainable, and low-maintenance water supply system. Solar energy eliminates the need for fuel or manual pumping, reducing operational costs and increasing water accessibility.
Borehole Rehabilitation & Maintenance
We are currently maintaining over 300 boreholes across Uganda, while upgrading outdated water sources with modern technology. Our goal is to ensure long-term functionality and efficiency by integrating solar energy and digital monitoring systems.
Digitalizing Water Systems
With the Uganda Community Water Development Project, we are modernizing old water wells by implementing digital monitoring systems. These systems prevent breakdowns, improve efficiency, and ensure sustainable water management.
Community Training & Capacity Building
We empower communities by:
✔ Training water management committees to oversee local water resources
✔ Educating locals on hygiene, sanitation, and clean water conservation
✔ Hosting capacity-building workshops to promote sustainable water usage
Waste-to-Energy & Environmental Sustainability
Beyond water, we promote environmental sustainability by converting organic waste into biogas, reducing landfill waste while providing affordable energy solutions for households and small businesses.
